PMI PMP certification is not as good as you think it is. Employers aren’t looking for this certification. When compared to CISSP certification standards, the PMI PMP certification is a joke. It requires no real world job experience, the standards and procedures are easier to pass and employers generally don’t recognize this accreditation as a deciding factor in employment.
You can surf the many forums regarding PMI PMP certification and you’ll find the same information. PMI PMP certification just costs too much for what you get in return. If you can’t present this certification to employers and get the job, then what good is it? An accreditation is only as good as what it can get you in the real world.
Please keep in mind, that certifications like these are only as good as the people who hold them. You could pass the hardest test in the world but if you can’t perform in the real world, all the knowledge you hold will mean nothing. PMI PMP is a perfect example of this and a main reason why you should avoid this type of certification altogether. Employers have trained eyes to disregard this form of certification because it doesn’t represent any real world experience.
Many people have achieved PMI PMP certification and acquired jobs. Don’t let this fool you. The real reason they got the job is because of additional certifications like the CISSP. They couple their certifications together in order to have the best chance at attaining the desired job position.
Think of it from an employer’s perspective. They need to know that you can perform in real world scenarios. You may think that your PMI PMP certification will land you the job but it won’t. The best thing you can do is to add this accreditation to additional certifications but by itself it’s worth a lot less. The amount of money you will spend on training and courses will amount to thousands of dollars, do you really have that much money to waste?
